The Interviewees Have Been Contacted!

Helloooooo!

It's currently the weekend and I wanted to quickly update you guys on the interviewee situation, since I had only mentioned who Kim and I were thinking about, not so much about who we were actually planning on picking. I'll follow a similar structure to my last interviewee post, since I do not want it to be confusing.

Interviewee #1: Artist

Even though I was highly considering this person to be interviewee, I am not so sure about that anymore. Not because of anything that happened or anything they did, but I realized that if they are not 100% confident about talking about their experiences on camera, that would complicate things. I have also never seen them be interviewed and I'm not sure if their answers would be solid, so even though I have not fully dropped them as an option, I think Kim and I should see who else could possibly take their spot. If we end up wanting them in the documentary, though, I'll have to follow up on her and ask about her comfort level again.

Interviewee #2: Former AICE Media Partner

I definitely would love working with this person, and according to what they said earlier this week, they will be a part of the project!

While all the groups were meeting and discussing their projects, Kim and I went up to them, gave them a brief overview (again, I had already discussed the project with them so they were already familiar with the project), and then asked. They said yes, and since all of us will be filming our projects during break, we will have to be careful about scheduling and all that. Regardless, I really do think that this person is a very solid interviewee and on-camera talent (B-roll), so I am excited to work with them again.

Interviewee #3: A Friend of Florence's

This person was somewhat difficult to reach out to since they just came back from a short debate program in Harvard (yup, Harvard), but after a few days, they responded and said yes. Kim was the one that contacted her so I do not know the exact details of what she said, but apparently she is a "fan of our work" especially after hearing about the process with Counter Conformity (she is one of Florence's close friends). Hearing that honestly felt really rewarding and of course her agreeing to be a part of it was even more exciting. I really do think that even if this person does not know the specifics about the theory of the male gaze, she will be able to give us thorough, purposeful answers that will drive the conversation forward and really capture the essence of the topic. Very excited to see what her answers are like!

Interviewee #4: My Male Gaze Conversation Buddy

I know I had mentioned that this person was a back-up especially after working with them so much on other projects, but as I think about it more and more, they might be a better option than Interviewee #1.

Not only are they extremely well-versed on the male gaze (I would know, since we talk about this all the time), but they have been interviewed and acted on camera before (and of course produced quality films), so working with them would not just be smooth, but easy since we both know how each other works. The only reason why I wouldn't want them in the documentary is because I was planning on doing something specific for the introduction, which they could still be a part of but it would not go the way I was planning on executing it. This would require a bit of flexibility on my side, but honestly I think it might be worth it. I have not officially asked them since I want to make sure it is okay with Kim, but I definitely think this person will end up being the third interviewee.

Interviewee #5: TV Friend

Even though I consider this person as more of a back-up (not because of anything personal, simply because I have other people in mind), they asked about being an interviewee and said that they were willing to step in if someone were to back out. Having them just in case definitely make me feel a lot more relaxed just in case things do end up going wrong last-minute, so I really appreciate them for saying that. I am actually considering having this person be there during the filming process just in case (if they want to be there, of course). This is because they really liked Counter Conformity and also want to start making content about the male gaze, so I think that having them there to possibly help us film might be beneficial not just for Kim and I, but also for them since they'll be able to see what the documentary filming process is like. I love working with this person, they are extremely talented, and I would love to expose them to AICE Media and its projects before I graduate (they will be a senior next year and I think they will be in AICE Media AS level). Even if they end up not being an interviewee, I would still love for them to be there with Kim and I.

So, two interviewees set, one to go! Kim and I will be deciding who will be the last hopefully by the end of this week, so once they are finalized, I will be posting another update. Thank you so much for reading, I'll write to you again next week!
