The last week before filming is almost here. We have a lot to do and not much time to do it, so we need to stay organized and focused in order to stay on track. Kim and I made a schedule for ourselves about two weeks ago where we outlined what we needed to finish each week, and so far we have been sticking to that schedule with little issues (I really hope I didn't just jinx that). Because these schedules and lists have been helpful for us so far, we decided to make one specifically for this upcoming week.
In order to make sure everything we need to do is finalized before we film, I decided to make a checklist on Kim and I's "Planning" document on Google Drive. I divided it up into a couple sections so it seemed a bit less daunting and easier to understand. Here is a screenshot and a transcription underneath:
CHECK LIST:
RESEARCH
Figure out how to do live feed thing
Research TV tracking/masking
Find what will be “playing” on the TVs in final edit
Start thinking about music
WRITING
Finish writing questions
Finalize questions and structure
EQUIPMENT/PROPS
Finalize equipment pick-up (contact Jim)
Finalize prop pick-up (coordinate with dad, Cummings and Kim)
Shot/sequencing/set-up ideas
Pick up equipment
Pick up props
Get converter
PRE-FILMING
3D render of room?
Start testing things out at home to see how they look
Schedule interviews and filming dates
Decide on interview “look” and location
SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media post ideas
Finalize branding of social media page and docu-series
Take pictures of props, edit it and maybe post that as first post?
This list and its purpose is relatively self-explanatory, but I just wanted to share it with you guys just so everyone could see how much time, energy, and effort goes into not just making a documentary, but getting ready to film. I personally think that pre-planning is the most important stage, because the better you plan, the smoother the rest of the process flows and the easier it is to stay focused and make something cohesive. I really do think all of this hard work will pay off in the end. Very excited to keep sharing my progress with you guys! I'll post more as more of these things get done.
